Dominique Hauvette has been making wine in the northern foothills of Les Alpilles in Provence since 1988. Not far from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, a tourist town known for Roman ruins and as the place where Van Gogh painted “The Starry Night,” you’ll find Domaine Hauvette. The vines are surrounded by a rocky and wild landscape - the clay and limestone soil retains moisture for the arid summer months, the Mistral blows for half of the year, and garrigue is seemingly everywhere. It is here that in the early 1980s Dominique Hauvette, seeking more sunshine, left her job as a lawyer in the Savoie and began studying oenology. Hauvette produces destemmed, long macerated, and long-aged reds and whites of surpassing finesse. Over 35 years later and Dominique now has 17 hectares of vines and an international reputation for making benchmark natural wines.

Today, Dominique's wines are considered some of the best in Provence, and all of France for that matter. In 2020, La Revue du Vin de France awarded her winemaker of the year, and have also awarded Domaine Hauvette with 3 stars. This was achieved by being uncompromising in all aspects of viticulture and winemaking for over 3 decades. Old vines planted in Limestone heavy soils have been farmed biodynamically since 2003 (organic prior to that). Grapes are handpicked, sorted in the vineyard and again in the winery, and very little is added or taken away during the winemaking process.
