Domaine Clusel Roch is now under the reins of Gilbert Clusel, his wife Brigitte Roch and their son Guillaume who joined the domaine in 2009 after finishing his winemaking studies at school. The family have long been believers in the advantages of organic farming and have been pioneers of the movement within the region. In fact they had fully converted to this process as far back as 1990, and certified Biodynamic since 2002.
"La Viallière" sits in the north of the appellation on pure rocky mica schist which makes intensely mineral wine but refined and precise Syrah.
This is Syrah of great clarity, class and precision and should age beautifully but it’s a treat already.
Fine, elegant wines revealing good long-lasting aromas. Relatively complex fragrances of red and black fruits plus spices. The wines at their peak unveil aromas of undergrowth and grilled tobacco.
Inky ruby. Heady, mineral-accented aromas of black raspberry and blueberry preserves and pungent flowers are accented by a spicy top note. Red and dark berry liqueur flavors show excellent depth and vivacity thanks to a spine of zesty minerality and building spiciness. Finishes with impressively persistent dark berry and floral qualities, building tannins and excellent, mineral-driven persistence. 93 points.” — Josh Raynolds, Vinous
